A rectangular open-channel flume is used to create a
hydraulic jump. The upstream and downstream water depths of
the jump are measured at 0.5 ft and 3.5 ft, respectively. The
channel width, b, is 10 ft.
Questions
Students are asked to determine the Froude
number and velocities before and after the jump. Also plot the specific
energy and specific force diagrams. Indicate the hydraulic jump process
on each diagram.
Approach
Assume the flow far away from the jump is steady, uniform and one-dimensional.
